Current Life Update: Spring Break, Travels & New Content!

It's Spring Break at the moment, though you wouldn't be able to tell because the weather is deceiving. Though we've had some sun rays  poking through the cloudy haze that is the Netherlands, I still require a coat or at least a few layers when heading outdoors as Spring is a bit chilly and only (officially) started five days ago. Then again, I'm from Africa, so anything below 20 degrees Celsius is cold for me.

Cherry blossom trees in Rotterdam, Netherlands

But that's small talk.

I've gotten my first semester of university out of the way and I couldn't be more pleased with how well my first year is going. I've discovered new places, maintained my grades despite all the cups of coffee it took to stay awake during certain classes and I've met wonderful people. My mom always says the friends you make in university can turn into lifelong friends, and I really hope that's true because some of the people I've met are really great.

Tilburg City Center

Tilburg is nicer than I thought it'd be and I love living here more than I thought I would; I like the little bakeries in the city center, the bookstores at the Emma Passage with the cherry hardwood floors and counter-tops made out of old novels and despite knowing I should probably cut back on caffeine, I still like to grab a cup of coffee (or four) at Bagels & Beans with friends. I actually enjoy biking - lol, just kidding, there's nothing enjoyable about bathing in a puddle of your own sweat as you're on your way to university -  however,  now that the sun is finally making an appearance, it does make late afternoon bike rides so much more pleasant. There's also this park close to my apartment that'll be perfect for picnics with my boyfriend and there are so many cute thrift stores that my wallet and I don't always agree on yet we both love to go anyway.
Rotterdam, Netherlands

Naturally I have my off days and I really miss living in Rotterdam; I miss my life there, my friend group, the familiarity of knowing where I am because even though I suck at directions, I always know my way around Rotterdam but it is what it is and I know it is only a train away.

Those of you who read my blog regularly are always curious about where I'm traveling to next. This year I am traveling to four countries.

In April I'll be going to Ireland and Belgium. Ireland is actually a school "study" trip but that's going to be a separate blog post. What I will share is that I'm gone from the 8th to the 15th, [aka I'll schedule posts in advance]. Though I've visited Belgium before, I've never been to Brussels. My boyfriend has though, and he suggested it, so I was pretty keen to go. We're still in the planning stage as we were initially going to go this month, but plans fell through so we're re-planning for the 22nd of April for our one year anniversary (eek!!!

My boyfriend and I

At the end of the year my family and I are going on a trip to Namibia, I'm excited as we have other family members there but Namibia is hot as heck and I have no clue how I'll survive that heat because I have to get used to Cape Town's summer every time I go back.

Speaking of which...

Muizenberg Beach, South Africa

As per usual, I'll be heading home to South Africa in June and staying there for a month or so. It'll be winter again. I can't wait to go home, I miss my family so much. I miss my little sister's laugh and teasing her until she tattles  on me. (It doesn't matter that I'm nearly 20, I still get in trouble with my mom.)  There's my aunt Cindy to look forward to because even though she's almost twice my age, she's really like a big sister. There's my uncle Marque and my little cousins Mila and Matthew who have recently started walking!

My grandparents!

This wouldn't be a little family reminiscing session if I didn't mention the roots of my family tree - my grandparents! They're are honestly my best friends, no joke. My gran and I always gossip about our other family members - sorry not sorry - and my grandpa and I always go into town together to buy newspapers and groceries or just look at the flowers blooming in the main street. It's a tradition to go into town together, we've been doing it ever since I was four and I always sat in the middle of him and my grandma's bakkieif she decided to accompany us as usually she just writes up the shopping list.

[*I'm not sure what the English word for 'bakkie' is, but if you're South African you're the real MVP. If you're not just know that it's like a lil pickup truck I guess, and essentially they just have three seats in the front of the car so I always got the middle one - I still do]

I'm also super duper excited about seeing my other best friends too as being here has taught me that distance doesn't mean shit; if people are invested in you, they will make an effort to be in your life, regardless of where you are.

Before that turns into a rant...

I mentioned I'd be going to Ireland, but I didn't mention that it's going to take about two weeks of my Spring Break and I am currently off school for three. Oh my wordy wordy you guys, I am honestly not sure what I'm going to be doing with that extra week of free time as most of my friends have midterms or are traveling.  I'll most likely be studying and packing for Ireland. I also need to find a dress asap as my boyfriend has a Titanic themed gala at his university (help!!!

I did, however change my room up a little bit and I was thinking of uploading a room tour + organization post but we'll have to see as it's not entirely how I want it yet! I do know that I want to release new content though; as you may have seen I've started uploading playlists and more collaborations with other bloggers but lately I've been gravitating towards fashion posts, favourite places to hang out, day in my life etc.

Aside from all of that, I am happy and I am healthy and that's all I can really be thankful for. These past few months have been all over the place, so I would like to say 'thank you' to those who've stuck with me, as I know I am stubborn as heck and I am not easy to deal with at times.  2017 is a great year for me so far and,  dear reader, I really hope it is treating you the same.

Love, Miah
